SANDRO NOVAES

Brazil, 1976

Visual artist, researcher, and professor. PhD in Art History: Artistic Creation and Critical Reflection from the University of Granada, Spain. His visual work explores questions related to the understanding of time, spatiality, immateriality, and the phenomenological relationship between the artwork and the viewer. Sandro Novaes develops visual
narratives that play with the presence of the line in its multiple forms, interacting with painting, sculpture, drawing, and installation. He has participated in group exhibitions in Brazil and Spain. In Brazil, one of his works is part of the collection of MAR – Rio Art
Museum, and two monumental works are part of public collections in Espírito Santo: Aurora, installed in the Sculpture Park of the Governor’s House, and Experimento Nido, at the cultural park Reserva Vitória.

2024 – Awarded cum laude for his doctoral thesis entitled “From Plane to Space: Relations Between Expanded Drawing and the Emancipated Viewer: Penetrable Installation, Participation, and Phenomenology” at the University of Granada (UGR), under the supervision of José Ma Fernández Freijanes(Granada, Spain)

2024 – Participation in the group exhibition “Fireflies: like stars in the night”, Sur Gallery (Barcelona,Spain)
2023 – Participation in the group exhibition “Art and Creative Processes”, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Niterói (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)
2023 – Participation in the group exhibition “Least Common Multiple”, Porto House of Visual Arts, Vitória (Espírito Santo, Brazil)
