Rosindo Torres

Elsimar Rosindo Torres [1963] Vitória, Espírito Santo, Brazil

Artist educated in Visual Arts, UFES - Federal University of Espirito Santo, Brazil; and Theatre, Education and Culture teacher, UNIRIO - Universidad Federal del Estado de Río de Janeiro. His career includes residencies with distinguished Brazilian contemporary art professionals and his participation in solo and group exhibitions since 1994. He has been awarded in national exhibitions and art museums, and his works have been acquired by different public and private collections and institutions. In his creative process, he includes painting, object creation, installation, performance and urban interventions. His artistic approach is rooted in the exploration and appropriation of everyday elements, popular culture and the Christian universe. He investigates the connections between art and theology by integrating philosophical, sociological, and phenomenological perspectives, which has enabled him to shape a unique vision of the world. His political, critical and irreverent approach has been recognised at different stages of his career, as evidenced by the awards he received at the second and third editions of the Salao Yazigi de Artes do Espirito Santo (1999 - 2000), at the first Salao Capixaba do Mar (2000) and at the first Vitoria Art Salon (2003). Besides his academic work as a teacher, he keeps up a creative research routine in his private studio. Some of his latest contributions include his participation at the Eixo Art project in Sao Paulo, and in the group exhibition Novos Viajantes, at the Anchieta Palace in Vitoria.
