We

"An epistemology of the South based on three orientations:
learn that the South exists;
learn to go south;
learn from the South and with the South."
(Santos, 1995)

Franquilandia (Brazil, 1974) is an art historian, independent curator, and representative of artists from Latin America in the European Union. A professional with more than fifteen years of experience in a multidisciplinary career in the contemporary art world, she has worked as a manager of art spaces and as a coordinator of mediation teams in Brazilian public museums. She is also the coordinator of LEM - Laboratory of Education in Museums, a collective involved in the exchange between visual artists and primary education teachers in Brazil. In addition, Franquilandia trained in Visual Arts and specialized in Cultural Management in Brazil. Based in Barcelona since 2020, she completed the Master in Advanced Studies in Art History at the UB with research in which she has approached the work of Cildo Meireles and Hélio Oiticica, investigating the pieces that make up the collection of MACBA - Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona. Her interest focuses on artists who perceive contemporary art as a field open to continuous conceptual research that drives their processes and poetics. With Galería Sur, she is committed to sharing multiple visions of the world from the point of view of artists who are at the center of recent eco-social and political transformations in Latin America.

The success of this project is also due to the contribution of two extraordinary professionals: the Argentinean independent curator María Laura Ríos, an enthusiast of contemporary art and archives with a particular focus on Latin America. And the Brazilian art historian and independent curator Fabíola Pretel, cultural journalist and marketing expert. The meeting of the three Latin Americans in the Master's Degree in Advanced Studies in Art History at the University of Barcelona is the seed that made Galería Sur germinate.
